The ClarityDesk
See the Facts. Find the Fix.
About Us
The ClarityDesk is a fast-growing fact-checking project headquartered in Juba, South Sudan, established in June 2025 to offer trustworthy, insightful, and solution-oriented stories that not only verify facts but also present constructive responses to societal challenges. In today’s fast-paced, information-driven world, South Sudan faces an urgent need for credible journalism that provides clarity amidst the noise of misinformation, bias, and sensationalism.
The ClarityDesk integrates fact-checking, solutions journalism, and data journalism under the management of the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS), a registered national nongovernmental organisation (NNGO).
Problem Statement
In South Sudan, misinformation spreads rapidly, especially on social media, leading to confusion, polarisation, and distrust. While issues like poverty, corruption, and conflict are frequently reported, there is little focus on solutions or success stories that can drive positive change. There is a lack of accessible, reliable data to inform the public and policymakers on important national issues, making it hard to make informed decisions.
Mission
Our mission is to provide timely and accurate fact-checking services, ensuring that the public has access to verified information, thereby combating misinformation and enhancing informed decision-making.
Vision
To be the leading authority in fact-checking, fostering a well-informed society where truth prevails over misinformation.
Project Objectives
Regularly track and evaluate news stories, social media claims, and public statements for accuracy.
Develop educational programs to raise awareness about misinformation and promote critical thinking skills.
Create a user-friendly platform where individuals can easily access fact-checked information and engage with the organisation.
Expand citizens’ skills to participate in the fact-checking process, encouraging them to report misinformation and seek clarification on claims.
Create a digital outlet for solutions journalism and data-driven reporting to present complex information in accessible formats, enhancing public understanding of critical issues.
At The ClarityDesk, we encourage readers to submit claims for fact-checking through a user-friendly online form, social media, or email, ensuring they provide relevant details about the claim. We focus on verifying public statements, statistical data, and misleading social media claims, while we do not fact-check personal opinions, speculative statements, rumors, or issues beyond our expertise. After submission, users will receive acknowledgement and updates on the outcome of their claims within 72 hours, fostering community engagement and transparency in our fact-checking process.
